Chiefly newspaper clippings regarding the Burgoon family, local history, well-known people, and topics and issues of general interest; correspondence, chiefly dealing with the various railroads for which Burgoon worked, but also to genealogical information on the Burgoon and Flegle (also spelled Fleugle) families, Masonic items, and political matters, especially his service as presidential elector in 1908; correspondence, reports, speeches, and printed materials relating to his service with the 169th Ohio Vlunteer Infantry and its reunions and Eugene Rawson G.A.R. Post, including scrapbook of clippings pertaining to the Civil War, a military scrapbook for Seneca County, including rolls for the Mexican War, and scrapbook of miscellaneous newspaper clippings; together with family photos, many identified and typed copy of Burgoon's memoirs.

The Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad was founded in 1871 and it was originally designed to span the distance from the Ohio River through the coal fields of southeastern Ohio to the ports on Lake Erie.
